One of the distinctive features of Dynamics GP is that it is hosted on-premise rather than in the cloud. As Microsoft has shifted focus to the development and maintenance of cloud-based products, the company encouraged GP users to consider a transition to a cloud-based alternative product such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations.

New Microsoft policy gives GP users options

In July 2021, Microsoft pledged to continue to provide support and upgrades  for Dynamics GP through 2028 (and possibly beyond.) Microsoft Dynamics GP now falls under Microsoft’s Modern Policy. The Modern Policy offers continuous support and servicing, including bug fixes, new features, and the latest tax updates. Clients may stay current by applying at least one of the three yearly planned Dynamics GP releases. Older releases continue to follow the existing lifecycle timelines under the Fixed Policy.
