Fieldfisher is an international law firm headquartered in London. With 22 offices in eleven countries, it focuses on four key sectors: energy and natural resources, financial markets, technology, and life sciences.

As a law firm, the business is a heavy user of the Microsoft suite of productivity tools. As a result, when the business wanted to consolidate its business applications, it was a natural choice for Fieldfisher to look at Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance.

"We are going to get a competitive advantage through using the evergreen platform and it demonstrates how the Microsoft suite together with evergreen really work to produce the overview of what's going on in a firm in a way that perhaps just a few years ago we could only dream about".

Consolidating to work seamlessly

Mike Giles, financial director at Fieldfisher, says Microsoft Dynamics seemed to him “like a natural progression... to bring all the firm’s data together into one place and to work seamlessly.”

Fieldfisher chose to implement Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance. Today, it is “the hub of the firm”. The Fieldfisher team uses Microsoft Dynamics across its operations for its purchase to payment cycle, billing cycles, general ledger, and reporting. In addition, fee earners use it to record their time, claim expenses and book holidays. In the process, the firm was able to retire eleven different legacy applications.

Facing COVID-19 with resilience

Switching to a cloud-based solution brings additional benefits to the Fieldfisher IT team. Because Microsoft Dynamics is automatically updated, minimal administrative interventions are required – freeing the IT team to focus on more value-add activities.

Fieldfisher leant on Microsoft Dynamics to support the firm to overcome the adversity of COVID-19. Mabel Harvey, IT director at Fieldfisher, explains, “At that point, we could assess how our investment had prepared us for a situation like that. And we had managed to make ourselves more resilient than we had expected.”

Dealing with the unexpected

Users could access all the tools they needed while working remotely or from home, enabling Fieldfisher to continue to best serve its clients around the world.

Mike Giles says, “I think it demonstrated how the Microsoft suite of products will work together to really produce that overview of what’s going on in the firm in a way that, perhaps, even just a few years ago, we could only dream of.”
