Aligning business strategy with the right partner
The client uses primarily manual processes, spreadsheets, and a third-party provider as their enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, as well as a series of disconnected point solutions. This includes tools for finance, operational management, and human resource management. Because of these disconnected systems, the client currently has a number of key processes that are highly manual and require significant manipulation to complete. This not only causes inefficiencies within the finance area but also delays the financial close process and reporting timeframes.
The client started the project with another partner. However, due to a lack of project governance and overall strategy, the partner did not deliver and the work was not up to standard. The client decided that the original partner was not best aligned to them as a business, and they sought the help of a new partner
sa.global was approached to take over the project - to help the client restart the project and assist them through to go-live. The engagement began with a two-day workshop at the client's headquarters. During this time, the status, health, lessons learnt, next actions, and other details were discussed, to give sa.global as much information as possible. sa.global prepared a detailed plan to take on the project and agreed to a go-live date in mid-2019.
Solution to improve efficiency and integration
By implementing Microsoft Dynamics 365, the client aims to improve global financial management practices and controls. By trusting a global Microsoft partner such as sa.global, the client looks to accelerate the financial close process to improve reporting and visibility across their international business. Another key aspect of the process was to reduce manual data entry and manipulation. This would improve efficiency and productivity levels considerably. The client would also gain a flexible technology platform that easily integrates with other corporate systems and technologies to drive efficiencies and flow of information across their entire operation.
The key drivers for the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations was an increased level of business intelligence to gain insight into operations and projects. Advancing project management and accounting capabilities were also areas where the client wanted to improve, as was a focus on item management and tracking, cost posting, and reporting. The client's vision was to be the most successful outfitting company in the world and to achieve this, there was a real need to support future growth of the business.
Selecting the right business partner
sa.global was selected as a result of being a good cultural fit for the client and their project, showing an understanding of the client's requirements, providing relevant examples, and being responsive. On awarding sa.global the contract, the client called out sa.global’s Senior Solution Architect, Jan Sennov, who led pre-sales in this opportunity. “Jan Sennov was particularly helpful during a two-day customization workshop. Jan took the time to understand our requirement, challenge us, and come up with an off-system workaround should the customization not go-ahead,” the client stated.
Reflecting on the initial stages of the project and experience with the client during the requirements workshop, Jan Sennov said, “The client's team was a pleasure to work with and it is exciting that sa.global has the opportunity to be part of their story as they go through a transition from ‘green’ to full ERP support. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations will bring a raft of benefits to them and I am sure they will see the value of this solution rapidly in how it will impact their day-to-day work, increasing efficiency by standardizing on the Microsoft Dynamics 365 platform. This project is a true example of how sa.global can help a business digitally transform by leveraging cutting edge software from Microsoft.”
